What a great night tonight!! I had an unexpected opportunity. I got a call around 4:30pm about an opportunity to preach at the rescue mission in Spartanburg. It has been about a year since I have preached anywhere and God had been teaching me few things in my own life, so I thought that this would be good time to share it. I didn’t have much time to prepare, but as I drove to church and then to the mission, God helped me collect my thoughts and prepare to give the message. I think that what God intended was a greater blessing for me. The men shared testimonies and we sang Amazing Grace. These are men who understand grace. These are men who experience need and the kindness of God every moment of their lives.
The message that I preached was about power to the powerless. In Luke 4, Jesus went to the temple and read a portion of the New Testament. I was from Isaiah and it spoke of the Spirit of God coming on someone and this person would set the captives free, make the blind see and free the oppressed. These words Jesus was fulfilling there in their presence. He was the fulfillment of that prophecy. There is no greater message to the captive, blind and oppressed but that they are released. This is for us: everyone. We are all captive. We need freedom. Freedom requires power; power that we don’t have in and of ourselves. But, by faith in the work of Christ, we can be freed from sin. I will go on later. But, I must resound the glories of Christ. He is all-sufficient. Praise His gracious choice.
Rejoicing!!
