I am through another week, and I have been renewed in my mind concerning the glory of God. On the out set, this week has been very busy. I had four tests, I worked close to thirty-five hours, and I had numerous other odds-and-ends fill my week. But, through the fog of this busyness, God once again pointed me to His glory.
As I have said in a previous post, I am reading through Piper’s book “Let the Nation’s be Glad.” The theme the Supremacy of God in missions. But as I have been reading it, I have found that God’s desire for His glory to the nations has been His “mission” from the beginning. God’s glory to the nations is not just a secondary theme in God’s plan, it is primary.
The pinnacle His glory in the History of mankind was God’s Son, Jesus, taking on human flesh and suffering the full wrath of God’s judgement for the sins of the world. He won the victory over the grave and death, and He offers the power of life through the cross. This is the hope and glory that we have been entrusted to give to the nations.
So what does this mean for me here and now where I am? As a joint heir in the riches of Christ, I am a debtor to those who are in need of the saving grace of God. Because I have not done anything to achieve salvation through my own works, I have debt to pay to those who are lost and dying. That debt is the Gospel. The Gospel is what I live, I breathe, it is the power that enables me to live every day. And it is life according to the Gospel that gives hope to the lost. The Gospel will shines as a piercing light through the darkness of this world by the means of our transformed lives and displays the glory of God to those around us.
So, my life this week, although seemingly typical, was a radical display of the glory of God. Living normal life in the reality of the cross, is radical living. We are to live humbly, meekly, hungering for righteousness, mercifully, purely, peaceably, and rejoicing in the conflicts that are due to this type of life. This is foolishness to the world, but to God, it is praise and glory to His marvelous grace.
